Hello Just wondering, if this would work good. Main server - Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 as Active directory domain controller and Exchange 2010 server with Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard ? Or if I have changed domain controller for SBS and Exchange server for W2008 Ent. ? We are MAPS subscribers and for that we would like to use this licences for such purpose. thank you for reply Jakub

An SBS server can co-exist with another domain controller, but it must be the first domain controller in the domain and must hold all of the FSMO roles. Enterprise edition of Windows is a bit of an overkill for a domain controller. Therefore you could build the SBS server, configure it correctly. Then once complete, add the standalone server to the domain and DCPROMO it. It can hold the global catalog functionality, as that can exist on more than one server. 1. If I have understood your question, both can work, you need to understand the difference and what you will gain from them. The only difference I see is edition of W2008 Std or Ent. Check the differences. Also the differences between SBS. http://www.microsoft.com/sbs/en/us/compare-features.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-differentiated-features.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-compare-specs.aspxSukh

We have here licences for W2008 Ent. server, SBS2011 and Exchange 2010, so I was thinking of one server as domain controller and second for Exchange 2010. From these replies, I understand, that better option would be to install SBS as domain controller and w2008 ent. for Exchange ? thanks Jakub

That can work, depends if youhave plans on using DAG in the near future, in that case you should go for Ent. If you the licenses already padi for, then why not.Sukh

DAG would not be the issue in near future, so thank you very much, I will go and prepare myself for a long night :-). Jakub
