altering smtp connector to ssl port 465 without certificate
can anyone help with how to configure smtp connector to use port 465 with ssl without having to establish a certificate.

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish. Do you just want SMTP to send on port 465? You will need a separate SMTP virtual server and you need to configuring the outgoing port on that SMTP virtual server to be 465. Then create an SMTP Connector that uses that particular SMTP virtual server. If you want TLS/SSL over SMTP, you must have a certificate. Even with a cert, SMTP uses port 25 by default, when sending TLS/SSL.

I am guessing he is trying to resolve the issue a lot of us are trying to resolve. ATT (SBC/Yahoo) is now requiring SSL SMTP over port 465 and SSL POP3, neither of which Exchange appears to support. Unless someone knows of a way to accomplish this, you have to look at an outbound/inbound relay service

The "new" port settings that ATT/Yahoo will require in August seem to work fine on one computer here running Outlook Express, but when another machine running Outlook is set up per instructions it will not send mail. I was on the phone with ATT for more than an hour today to no avail, and the tech finally dismissed me with, "Oh, is that a sub account? Those haven't been changed over yet, wait until August." Of course the computer running OE, which works fine, is a sub account also. Is anyone else continuing to have problems?

Anyone have a solid solution that doesn't involve me paying 3 times as much for my DSL line so I can get a static IP? One would think there would be a third party Exchange SMTP connector out there that supports SSL, but I'm coming up dry in my searches. I've found relays, but all seem to charge a per-message price for outbound mail, which I'd rather not pay because of some mailing lists I send. ANYONE have any thoughts?

Here it is a year later and I'm having trouble with SSL port 465 with AT&T(Yahoo/SBC). Windows Mail under Vista has suddenly begun giving an error when I try to send email: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'Ted Toal', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F Nothing has changed in the email configuration EXCEPT that a week ago I changed the AT&T(Yahoo/SBC) password. After changing it, this error began to appear, but SPORADICALLY. Then yesterday the error began occurring 100% of the time when I try to send email. An AT&T(Yahoo/SBC) tech verified my email acct settings, then set up an acct on a different computer using the same settings and verified he could send email. So, the problem is at my end. I deleted the acct from Windows Mail and made a new one, same problem. The error occurs IMMEDIATELY upon clicking Send/Recv, even if I crank up the server timeout time. Could there be a virus monitoring port 465? Could this be a firewall issue? (I turned off Windows Firewall and same thing happens). Could it be an email spam filter issue? I'm only using the spam filtering that comes with Windows Mail by default. Ted Toal

I have been having the same problem. My workaround has been to disable SSL for SMTP (not POP) and send outgoing mail on port 587. This has been working.

Well, I had the same problem with Incredimail. Tried everything. Wife spent 1.5 hrs with ATT to no avail. Looked up all the OE couldn't send stuff and tried it. Somewhere along the line OE started working but not Incredimail. Unchecked the SSL box. Still got the errors but they did not have the details re the port and protocol stuff. Then, I opened each email and clicked send. It worked!! IM won't send enmass from the Outbox but at least now my wife can get back on the grid with her email. MCB66

Thank you, thank you, thank you. For the past several days I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out why WinMail suddenly, after more than a year, lost its ability to SEND email (it can receive on 995 with SSL). Changing the SMTP port from 465 to 587 and disabling SSL for only SMTP immediately solved the problem. This must be as a result of some Vista/ATT-Yahoo incompatibility, because my XP laptop isn't having any problems withports 465, 995,and SSL. - Dave
