allow SMTP relay for single server
Windows 2003 R2, Exchange 2003 SP2, ISA 2006 SP1 I want to send email alerts from an app on a web server. I made the following change: SMTP Virtual Server --> ACCESS --> RELAY --> RELAY RESTRICTIONS, granted the IP of the server I want to allow relay. I've tested relaying by telnetting to port 25 and executing the appropriate commands. I can relay to our domain but can't relay to other domains. When I try to send to other domains I get an "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <somename@otherdomain.com>" error. I'm not sure what I'm missing. Most docs I've seen recommend adding the IP to the RELAY settings of the virtual SMTP server which I've done already. I've tried restarting the SMTP service and the server itself. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

What is the From: address on the emails you're sending? An email that is neither from nor to one of your accepted domains will be seen as an attempt to use the server as an open relay (smpt relay and domain relay are different issues).$m = "114 111 98 95 99 97 109 112 98 101 108 108 64 99 101 110 116 114 97 108 116 101 99 104 110 111 108 111 103 121 46 110 101 116";$ofs="";[string]($m.Split() |% {[char][int]$_})

The from address is from our domain. I've used the same FROM address, while testing, for sending to our domain and to an external domain. It's just when I change the TO address to an external domain that I see the error.

Hi, Try the following steps: 1. Open ESM, right click your Connector and choose properties. 2. In Address Space tab, click add->SMTP. In E-mail domain field, type otherdomain.com (the external domain name). Click OK to apply. Note: If *(all domains) record is existing, you do not need to add a record for otherdomain.com. 3. Select the option "Allow messages to be replayed to these domains". Click Ok. If you do not have Connector, try to restart exchange and see if the issue persists. Sometimes we need to restart the exchange server to apply the change for relay restrictions.

Thanks. I was missing the option you mentioned "Allow messages to be replayed to these domains".
