administrative group assignment for mail-enabled distribution groups
Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to assign AD distribution groups to a specific Exchange 2003 administrative group or server. This requirement stems from a problem I am having with email address policies applying to mail-enabled distribution groups in a somewhat random nature. Here is the setup Im working in. -2003 AD Forrest at 2000 Native Functional Level -Five 2003 AD domains at 2000 Native Functional Level (4 of the domains are sub a root domain) -Single Exchange 2003 SP2 organization in Native Mode -Five Administrative Groups across the four AD sub domains -Majority of users/distro groups are in one of the domains/administrative groups --For simplicity, Ill refer to this domain as W and the main administrative group as WG When our operations folks create new mail-enabled distribution groups on domain W, they seem to randomly get assigned one of the many email address recipient policies. I figured this was due to our recipient policy filters so I double checked them. They are applying correctly to users, so that cannot be the issue. The next logical step was to check what msExchPoliciesIncluded attributes my user objects and distribution group objects had in the directory the user values and group valuesdo not match and the groups values are all over the map. The last place I looked at was each distribution groups AD properties: under the Exchange Advanced tab the assigned Administrative Group is displayed. My distribution groups are getting assigned to administrative groups outside of WG even though they are being created in domain W. Anybody know how toassign distribution groups to an administrative group or specific Exchange server? If not, is there another solution to this problem? Thanks

In Exchange 2003 and 2007 DLs are organization wide, but you can run into issues if the groups are not set to universal groups within AD. I'd check the group scope to ensure consistency. See here for more detail: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125256(EXCHG.80).aspx
