access denied saving spreadsheet on network drive

Under a particular subfolder, a supervisor wants 4 users to have modify rights to 1 XL spreadsheet.  The users have read only permissions to the parent folder and they access it via a mapped network drive.

It goes FOLDER-SUBFOLDER-spreadsheet

I made the appropriate NTFS change and under Effective Permissions the users show normal modify settings, however they cannot save changes to the file.

I created a new XL file in the same location and changed the perms to match, but they get the same results.

They use Excel 2013.  Those who have modify permissions that are inherited from the parent folder can edit the file.

What am I missing?

Thx

Hi,

As far as I know, this issue occurs because Excel tries to delete the temporary copy of the original workbook on the UNC share. When a user saves an Excel workbook to a UNC share location, Excel creates a temporary copy of the workbook. In the final step of the saving process, Excel deletes the original Excel workbook and replaces it with a temporary copy. If Delete permissions are not granted to the user, Excel cannot complete the saving process, and the user receives the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

I did not do the reg fix, but your response triggered a thought in that I ended up creating a folder for the spreadsheet and gave the users modify rights to the folder.  That resolved the issue.  Thx!
