Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Message too large. http://support.google.com/mail/bin /answer.py?answer=8770"

I attempted to send a message with a GMail account in Outlook 2013 and didn't realize the  total size was too be; woe is me.

Now I am repeatedly getting the message "Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Message too large. http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?answer=8770"

Clearly, Outlook is repeatedly attempting to send the message and not stopping after dozens of failures.

The crux of the problem is that as an IMAP account, this message does not appear in my Outbox or Sent Items folder so I cannot delete it I can't find any outbox to delete the message from, so every two minutes it tries to send it.

How do I get Outlook to give up on sending this so I can correct the problem with the message?

I am seeing this message as often as every second.

I know there are a lot of posts regarding this problem, but I don't understand the replies that are posted, and it doesn't help me resolve the problem.

PLEASE HELP.

Hi Anapchev,

Dont worry, these all disturbance occurring due to the size limit attachment in emails which you are trying to send again and again.

By default, MS-Outlook provides limitation of 20MB on its attached files or sometimes attachment limitation of IMAP account not allow to send larger files. To troubleshoot this bug Outlook offers a workaround through which you can increase the limit of attachment (by making changes in Reg values).

Increase the default attachment size:http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/email/outlook-2010s-default-attachment-size/

Feel free to reply for any further assistance.

Hi,

I'm afraid Clark's advice doesn't help in this case, the DWORD value: MaximumAttachmentSize only works for Exchange accounts in Outlook, the user is using IMAP anyway.

Go to the Web mail site to see if there are any mail stuck in any folders, delete it if there is.

If we can't find any mails stuck on Web, I suggest you rename the current data file from ".ost" to ".old", then Outlook will generate a new one to sync emails the next time it starts.

The .ost file location can be found from FILE -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Data Files -> Location. Go to that location and rename the .ost file for the IMAP account.
