You are no loner connected to this file...

I was ask to post my question to this forum.

In both Office 2010 and Office 365 I receive the message "You are no longer connected to this file. Another user may have removed you from it, or saved over it."  This happens whenever I open a shared file.  It does not matter whether it is on the network or on my computers hard drive.  I can open and save all non shared files.  I am using Windows 7.  This problem just started.  We have used these file for years and never had a problem.  Other users can open and save the shared files.  Any ideas what this could be???

Hi,

Based on the error message, this problem might occur when the volume preference option (VolumePref) is set to the opposite value from its setting when you opened the workbook. In this case, it was set to prefer UNC when you opened the workbook by using the mapped drive letter.

Please try this method:

Remove the VolumePref setting, or change value to zero (the default).

Hope it's helpful.

There is no VolumePref setting in the registry.  This happens even if I load a shared file from my drive.

Is there anything that can be done about this problem.  There must be others who have had this happen.  I purchased Office 365 thinking that it might correct the problem, but it didn't.  Is there somewhere else I need to go to get help???

I had to reformat my drive, reinstall windows, office (2010) and the rest of my programs. I purchased Office 365 to see if it would correct my problem, but it did not.  I would like a refund on my purchase of 365.

Thanks
