Wrong mail address in address book after server crash
Hi, we're running 3 Exchange Server 2003, most of the mailboxes were hold on a server which crashed (non recoverable). I then deleted the mailboxes from the crashed server using the AD UserManager-Exchange Tasks, then create the mailbox new on the other Exchange Server and recovered the mailbox from tape (Symantec Backup Exec). So far everything worked. Now, some users are reporting that mails can not be sent, the message is "The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to". Looking into the address book shows that the address is used from the crashed server but i've changed it in AD properly. Any idea howto fix? Thx

Why did you recreate the mailboxes? Was Active Directory gone as well? All you needed to do was recover the mailbox store if the Exchange org and AD was intact. When you created the new mailboxes you probably gave them new aliases. Users responding to old messages or appts or using cached entries for the old mailboxes will get NDRs. You will need to either add the old legacyExchangeDN values as X500 Custom Addresses to each mailbox and/or the end users will have to delete their cached entries and choose the addresses explicitly from the GAL. Not sure what you mean that the address book is used from the crashed server, but if the end users are in cache mode, you probably need to regenerate a new OAB on the server and have the users download it.

Hi, what about the public folder? Have you created a new one after the crash or have you implemented folder replication? I think you have to implement folder replication because the public folder is used for offline addressbook by the client.regards Thomas Paetzold visit my blog on: http://sus42.wordpress.com

When you go (Outlook online mode) to check users in GAL, will email addresses change or not? If you create mailboxes on the new server, it will not use the old email address, seems you are using the old OAB. please go to test in Outlook online mode, and post the result. I already asked the users to turn off the cached mode, the final trick was to ask the users to download the addressbook. Thanks for helping.
