Word repeatedly gets corrupt/needs repaired

I have 2 new installations of Word at government facilities that suffer from Word 2013 becoming corrupt. This only occurs when the systems are connected to the domain, if they are left disconnected from the network, all is good. Looking at the Windows event log, I have this entry which I think is the root cause:

The Software Protection service failed to start. 0x80070005

Is this a permissions issue?

Hi datacard,

Based on your error message >>The Software Protection service failed to start.0x80070005<< and your description, this issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • The Task Scheduler service is disabled.
  • The Software Protection Platform service is not running under the NETWORK SERVICE account.
  • Read permissions for the NETWORK SERVICE account are missing on the following folder:
    C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Verify that the Task Scheduler service is running.
  2. Open the Computer Management tool, and then navigate to Configuration -> Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> SoftwareProtectionPlatform.
  3. On the General tab of SoftwareProtectionPlatform, select the security options, and then verify that the Software Protection Platform service is set to use the NETWORK SERVICE account.
  4. Go to the C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform folder, and then verify that the NETWORK SERVICE account has Read permissions for that folder.
  5. Restart the Software Protection service if it is running.

Hi datacard,

Please refer to this blog and find the part:

This issue is currently on hold, the end customer is installing new domain controllers with different policies so we are going to wait to see if that resolves the issue. Thank you for the information, if the problem still isn't resolved, I will pick up with your latest answer.
