Word documents missing comments

One of my users came to me with a problem that I have never encountered before and after a brief web search have found no helpful answers.  The situation is the user emailed a Word document to another user, when you go to open it you get the following error:

click OK then you get this:

Of course we want to recover the contents and work with the document so we click Yes.

The document seems to open just fine with comments, the problem is the comments later in the documents are there but blank, the comments at the beginning are just file.

I do not know what version of office it was created in, other than it was 2007 or later. Can this be fixed?  What causes this?

Hi,

This file might got corrupted during the sending. The first error clearly pointed out where is the corruption. If you are familiar with XML, you can change the extension to .zip, then find the specific .xml file, here is Coments.xml in your case. Then edit the XML file in a .xml editor.

Sometimes, you just cannot figure out the error in the .xml editor approach, then you might want to consider some third party tool, I don't want to spam here. You can simply google by yourself.
