Word 2013 opens in minimized window (blank preview window on taskbar)

I am running word 2013 32bit on a Windows 7 64bit OS.  Randomly, at least it appears random, documents will open minimized but in a way which the only way to open them is to right click and select maximize or restore to open them.  Closing and then reopening the document seems to work as well.  This happens on almost all my users, but some more than others.  I have one individual who is having it happen 6-7 times a day which is the most annoying.  Below is a screenshot of the way it looks.

I have attempted a few things to fix this including disabling hardware graphics acceleration, updating video drivers, and making sure office was completely up to date and checking disable other apps that use dde in excel (which was a sugestion in another post).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need any more information please let me know.

What you describe happens sometimes. I've seen it myself. I suspect it's a bug with Windows 7.

George.Zhao CHN in this thread With multiple Office 2013 items opened, Word opens an invisible document came up with a solution that worked for me.  This does not prevent it from happening 100% of the time but for any individual who  is experiencing this issue 5+ times a day this worked to fix the issue.  (anything that looks like this is my notes)

"Hi,

As far as I know, this issue usually occurs with Windows7 and Office 2013. Please try the below methods:

  • File - Options - Advanced - General section - check the box for "ignore other apps that use DDE". (this is in excel only as far as I can tell)
  • File - Options- Advanced - Display - uncheck Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
  • Update display card driver
  • Increase virtual memory (We'd better use more RAM) (I did not do this one as they had plenty already)

Hope it's helpful."
