Word 2013 freezes when you use search function

Hello,

I have a user on Win 8.1 Ent with Office 2013 Pro Plus. Not every time, but very regularly, when they attempt to do a Search in Word 2013, either with Ctrl+F or through the ribbon, Word locks up and becomes unresponsive, then crashes. I have tried the following things and have not been able to fix this...

1. Repair
2. Uninstall/reinstall
3. Disabled all Add-Ins

This issue does not occur when I start Word in Safe Mode.

I am out of ideas at this point, short of a complete OS reinstall.

Some other notes: He has hundreds of files. I do not know if this is happening with every single one. I took a selection of 3-4 that he is having trouble with on his PC and copied them to a different PC (Win 8.1 Ent and Office 2013 Pro) and had no issues doing searches on the alternate PC. Some of these files are saved as Word 97-2003 *.doc files. Converting them to modern *.docx does not resolve any search issues.

Hi UFWCBARob,

Based on your description, when the user tried to use Ctrl+F shortcut in Word 2013, it crashed. You had tried several methods to troubleshoot this issue but they failed. You also found it worked fine in safe mode and another user's computer.

According to your test, I suggest you check the Marco in the user's Word file, and try to disable it. Then check if the issue was caused by Macro.

If the issue still exists, please try to collect the event log messages and send the event log messages to our email address:
ibsofc@microsoft.com
Please Note: Please add the URL of the case in the email subject or body
.

So that I can get more information from event log messages.

Please try these methods and let me know if they work for you.

I'm glad to help and follow up your reply.
