Winword high CPU usage

Hi.

We have RD Session Host with 12 CPUs and about 40 users concurrently work on it.

Almost all users launch Word. Approximately once a day one Word begins use 10% of CPU.

This continues until Word restart.

At this time user doesn't do any heavy things, furthermore, user can be disconnected at this time.

We use Windows Server 2012 R2 and Office 2013 with last updates.

Does anybody has the same issue? What could be the reason for such behavior?

This issue affects all files. There is no add-ins.

I have tried "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" and disable "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" options, but it has no effect.

What information I can provide for you to solve the issue?

Hi Yurko,

Based on your description, I suggest you copy the file to local computer and check if it also uses 10% CPU.

I suggest you collect Process Monitor log:

Download the Process monitor form the website, and then unzip it.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645

Refer to the steps below to collect the logs.

  1. Run Procmon.exe, and if the Filter appears, please click Cancel. Select "File->Capture Events" to stop collecting or Capturing. And then select "Edit->Clear Display
  2. Please close all the unnecessary applications, for example: anti-virus(or the size of the log will be very huge, and it would take extremely longer time to complete the analysis)
  3. Please select "File->Capture Events" to start the capturing.
  4. Please open one word document, to reproduce this issue.
  5. Please wait for the completion of this issue, and then select "File->Capture Events" to stop the capturing

Please select "Save" button on the tool bar, and then select "All Events", and save the format of the log as "Native Process Monitor(PML)", after this, please click OK.

You can analysis this process monitor log by yourself, or you could send it to our email address:
ibsofc@microsoft.com
Please Note: Please add the URL of the case in the email subject or body.

I'm glad to help you.
