Winows server 2008 sending and recieving mails
Hi Given that Exchange server 2007 is only 64 flavor, the POP3 seems to be not suported by windows 2008 server 32/64 bit edition and the exchange server 2003 is not supported by windows 2008 32 bit edition. So how do I? The complexity resides in the simplicity

You install Exchange 2007 or 2010. Maybe you could be a bit more specific about your goal so we can give a bit more exact answer than above. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Hi Martin OK, I have windows server 2008 32 bit configured as domain controler, I tried to install exchange 2007 but I found that there is only 64 bit version of it . In the other hand, I tried to install exchange server 2003 but I faced installation problems and the exchange team told me that exchange 2003 is not compatible with windows 2008. Finally, I tried to simply use SMTP and POP3 to configure the server but in vain I discovered that POP3 is no longer supported by win 2k8 so how do I. If there is a mail server that supports microsoft office outlook 2008/2010 that you can recommend or if you have any other sugestions then they will be highly appreciated. My final purpose is to configure the in server 2k8 32 bit sending and receiving mails within a LAN network. that's it Thank you The complexity resides in the simplicity

Hi, Don't you have a domain that is already hosted somewhere? Either on another local server or outside of the company? I don't know of any mail programs other than POP3/IMAP hosted or just using BPOS from MS if you can't install another server with Exchange on a 64bit windows server (or install a 2003 32bit server with exchange 2003) /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

I think Installign Exchnage 2003 on windows 2003 is a better idea. There are also other e-mail flavours providing SMTP/pop3 functionality on W2k8 servers. ( Also 64 bit windows server shoudl support 32 bit software , but not EXCHANGE 2003)

You can run that combination on a machine much less expensively than you can with Windows. Since you're asking only about POP3 I'm guessing you have only a few mailboxes to deal with. Also, why not run the 64-bit version of Windows? It's pretty hard to find machines that only run in 32-bit mode these days (or for the last several years). --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
