WindowsemailAddress. .  exteralEmailAddress and SMTP address  different

For Mailbox user, if I update the primary email address, the User WindowsEmailAddress will be automaticly updated.
But for the Contact, If I update the external email address, the WIndowsEmailAddress didnt update.
1 more question, even the WIndowEmailAddress not update,
But from the Outllook 2007, it will user contact info maybe from external email address
but for the Outlook 2010, User contact info maybe from WindowsEmailAddress.
Any ideas? Any sync error in AD with Exchange?
Thanks

For Contacts, the external email address (targetAddress attribute in AD) is the one used by Exchange for routing purposes. In other words, it doesn't really matter what the WindowsEmailAddress shows.Tony

Thanks, but they will not sync automaticly?
It's ok, when we update the external email address, update the windows address as well, but i though the window address will be auto update from the primary email address. Thanks

Hi,
The WindowsEmailAddress will only be updated automatically IF you still have "Automatically update e-mail addresses...." checked.

If you don't, then you need to change the value for WindowsEmailAddress when you change the ExternalEmailAddress.
