Windows Phone 8 Outlook Syncing Errors

Hello,

I work for a university, and I am an LSP there.  I was assisting one of our faculty members with setting up her Outlook email on her Windows 8 phone (8.0.9905.12).  Every time we would try and sync her Outlook email, it would give us this error.

I have done research on this and found the following article:  https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2792112?wa=wsignin1.0

I followed the instructions listed and it still was unsuccessful.  The faculty member went through all of her folders checking for any of the ASCII errors, and she could not find any.  She also went through and shortened the names of her folders and got rid of any special characters.  We tried the sync again with no success.  I then reset her phone, because she was having other issues as well, but those were fixed with the reset.  After the reset was complete, the phone still would not sync with her email.  I was wondering if any of you have any ideas why this is happening and if this can be fixed.

Thanks!

Setup Exchange account in Windows Phone Outlook is based on the Exchange ActiveSync service. We need to confirm that this service is working fine currently. Or is there any ActiveSync Mailbox Policy set?  Check if this issue happens on other user's WP8.

This issue may occur some corrupted mails stuck in her mailbox. Try to log onto her mailbox through Web-based Access (OWA), remove all of large attachment or any suspicious messages to see the result.

Thanks.

we are having the same issue and have followed the same steps - I've logged a support ticket with Microsoft as we are using Office365. Will post an update once I have one.

I am also experiencing the same issue. I am running Windows 7, Office 2010. I cannot seem to set up this work email on my Windows Phone 8x by HTC. I believe I am entering in all the correct information. Please advise. Thank you.

Tony Chen CHN:  As far as I know we are the only people in our building with Windows Mobile devices.  I have a WP7 Mango and she has the WP8.

I had her delete all of the her attachments that were larger than 1MB, I also had her look through her entire email to see if there was a bad message or spam etc... and it still did not resolve the issue.  Thank you for your suggestion, though, it did help rule out size constraint issues, and bad emails.  :-)

Also we went through the OWA and found out that it is recognizing the device so when we go to sync it it would keep coming up as Not Applicable on the latest sync column.

I am unsure where to find the ActiveSync Mailbox Policy.  Is this a setting that is on our Exchange Server? If so, I do not have access to turn this on, but I can request it.  However please read the Update, because I believe that it is turned on.

DenisCooper:  Please let me know what you find out, I am interested on what Microsoft has to say and implement on this issue.  It just seems like a lot of people are having this same issue.

FollowrOfChrist:  You might want to double check your settings with your IT group.  If your work requires a domain, don't forget to put that in as well.  Also open a ticket with your IT group, so that they can have the information for future clients.  :-)

UPDATE:  I deleted her Outlook account, on the phone, and signed into my account (per the request of our support center group, which we have an open ticket with), and my email synced right up.  When I deleted mine and had her log in, it stopped working again.

One of my colleagues raised the point of a password error.  My password is just under 32 characters and it seems that her password is longer than that.  Are there any limitations to the length of the password or any special characters on these phones?

Thanks again!

For the question related to phone, this forum is not a good source. Better to post a question to the forum of Windows Phone. Thanks for your understanding.

Actually id does deal with Outlook.  She went through her sent mail in her email and found characters that the phone could not recognize.  She deleted those emails from her Outlook and her phone synced right up.

Thanks everyone for the information, and assistance.  I hope to see you all around, but not too soon.  :-)

Thanks again.

Would be nice if you told us what characters and how you found them as I am having this problem and the mailbox is very large so searching through the mailbox for this is very challenging without the help.

I apologize.  She did not tell me which characters but I would have to assume that they are any of these special characters:  &%><}{][^*~:;

Also I would look at your folders and sent items and delete or rename all of the folders / emails that have special characters in the title.  I'm. Sorry but you are going to have to do this manually unless you type all of the special characters, one at a time, in the search field.  I do not know of a faster way.

Hope this helps!  :-)

Actually there is a faster way if you have access to Outlook Web App.  Go into Options / Settings / Regional Settings and check "Rename default folders so their names match the specified language".  This will get rid of all special characters in folder names, event he invisible kind like tabs and hard returns.

I simply removed the account from my phone and re-installed. It immediately synced and i was back to business.

I did all of the above on my Windows 8.1 update phone. My outlook.com is also the Microsoft account for the phone. I also reset the phone, restoring everything, but still the issue remains, no sync of email and calendar items; also the family room is no longer there.

If I go to outlook.com all mail is there, and also the calendar items in the family room are in the calendar!

This is now seriously hampering my use of the phone. Any suggestions?
