Windows 2008 Server with Exchange SP2 update to Windows 2008 R2
Hi In my lab environment I have Windows 2008 Server Enterprise SP2 which is domain controller and also has Exchange 2010 SP 2 installed. I know i shouldnt put exchange on domain controller but it is just test environment so I just want to upgrade server 2008 to server 2008 R2. Would this work since Exchange is installed on Windows 2008. I am willing to give this a try but would like some advice from people that may have done it already. ThanksDalibor Bosic

Hi, Upgrading the OS is a very bad idea. You will be totally out of support.Martina Miskovic

Hi Thanks for your responses. Some of you say it may work or it may not work but since it is lab environment I will definitely try it. If worse comes to worse I may need to reinstall whole R2 but since it is lab environment no harm in trying. Mr Prasad says that he did it and it worked so if one person did it I may be able to do it as well. If it doesnt work no harm since it is isolated lab environment and no support is needed Dalibor Bosic

IF any of you are interested I did successfull upgrade from Windows 2008 Enterprise to Windows 2008 R2 with exchange 2010 SP2 and everything went very smooth. After that I deploy SP 1 for R2 and my lab environment is complete. Mr Prasad was right it can be done and it is quite easy just do your active directory health check run adprep utilities and you should be good to go even if exchange is there. Dalibor Bosic
