Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2007 SP1 SP2 SP3 ... And fail at Mailbox Role
Dear Sirs, I'm installing Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2, in an Exchange 2003 organization as the second server. I plan to do so. 1 - Install Exchange Server 2007 with SP1 (which is what I have available to install) 2 - Install SP2 for Exchange 3 - Install SP3 for Exchange (which is the version supported by Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2) But during the deployment of Exchange Server 2007 with SP1 I get the following error: "The role of the mailbox Failed Error: There was an error. The error code was 3221684229. The message was Access is denied .. " Searching the web, read some articles to solve the problem, including: Run SETUP on compatibility mode to switch to Vista SP1. But I do not believe that Microsoft has not the correct way to implement what I want since it supported and official version. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2010/06/21/455145.aspx Now I'm standing on it without having to proceed without official information on how to do this. Anyone have the correct information? : Because I could not find. Thanks Antonio Azevedo

You cannot install Exch 2007 SP1 or SP2 on a Windows 2008 R2 server. This is not supported. If you want to use Windows 2008 R2 , you will need to start out with Exch 2007 SP3. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607226(EXCHG.80).aspx "Exchange 2007 SP3 provides support only for a new installation of Exchange on Windows Server 2008 R2. Exchange 2007 SP3 is not supported in an upgrade scenario on Windows Server 2008 R2" The following download is the download for SP3 which can be used as a full installation and starting point: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1687160b-634a-43cb-a65a-f355cff0afa6&displaylang=en "Clean installations of Exchange 2007 SP3 on a new server are possible by using this download in the same manner as you would install Exchange 2007 RTM, Exchange 2007 SP1 or Exchange 2007 SP2." Tim, I have Suspected of this during this night after reading a bit more Thank you. I Have other question: do you think I we can unistall only the previous server (Ie Have Installed some roles on it, Management Tools,Hub Transport Role, Client Access Role), and start again by SP3 ? or need to reinstall the entire server (Windows 2008 R2 + Exchange sp3) ?

you should be fine just uninstalling all of the Exchange components from the server completely and then starting over with Exch SP3. Just make sure that it is completely uninstalled from the server. If it was me, I would want to start fresh. Uninstall Exch completely from server (so you don't leave any remants in AD...do not just turn off the server and reinstall), then reinstall the OS and start over. With Exchange it is always better to have your install and clean as possible.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com
