Will the Exchange 2003 Mail Store database be affected if I delete a 45 GB .BKF file on same Local Disk?
Hello,I need to make some free room on Local Disk (D:) which has only 750 MB free out of 121 GB. This local disk houses the Mail Store Database. There is also a Backup folder with only a 46.7 GB.BKF file in it. Is it ok if I delete the Backup folder? Will the Local Disk be OK after leaving such a big empty space? Please advice and let me know what you think. Thank you in advance!

Hi, There should not be any problem if you have more empty space on drive. You face problem only when you are out of space on drive. And delete would not take much system resources so you are ok to delete the .bkf file and recover the space on drive. It would enhance the performance on your system. Thanks. Regards, Sunil Bansal.

I would find out what that is a file of first before I delete it. Mark Morowczynski|MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Hi Mark, the file is a exchange.bkf - a backup for the mail store it seems, and has not been modified in a while. I have already made a copy of it in an external HD. My question was if the delete will interfere with the stability of the same local disk in which the exchange mail store resides. Thank you.

No, it won't give you grief with the Exchange databases and you already made a copy of it. I would check the Windows Backup application to see if/when it will attempt to backup to that location again though.

No, ITboy, you can free feel to delete it after confirming it's useless. Thanks,Elvis
