Will Exchange from SBS2003R2 install to an existing WS2003x64 based domain.
In late 2007 we added SBS2003 to our existing WS2000 domain. We had many problems; e.g. sbs/Exchange wouldn't install (failed part way through). We then ported our mail to ISP and removed the SBS box (demoted it first). Rather than deal with the composite nature of SBS, we upgraded our 2 ws2k DC's to WS2003r2sp2x64 boxes but had problems. Most of these problems have been resolved butsome stuff like the following remains ... Event ID1153Internal Event: The following schema class has a superclass that is not valid. Class identifier: 739847912 Class name: msExchRoutingSMTPConnector Superclass identifier: 196659 We also get 2087 errors, however, replication works???Currently, the 2 ws03x64 DC's r mostly fine; every node of our domain is accessible, aDSL/Internet access is great, and the DC's replicate but there r still a few issues. -I found left over Exchange stuff within AD and followed ms/kb's to prune it from AD, however, the above kind-a errors still remain. At this point, i want to run the said sbsExchange setup against our current domain to either install the sbsExchange on to one of these new DC's or use the setup to remove the Exchange mess that is still embedded in AD. Should this be a do-able thing; e.g. will this particular setup run on a non-sbs platform? -will it run on our WS'03 DC's? -Ideally, we'd like to run the sbsExchage until budget allows us to get Exchange64. -Somebody please share some experience with me; -help !!!Thanks,GlennXSGlenn of xSyLent

Hi Glenn,I think you don't have to install full Exchange 2007 to remove just this error. PrepareAD switch of Exchange 2007 setup should correct any mess of schema and you can even use 32 bit edition of Exchange to prepare your AD for Exchange 2007 and can stay with prepared AD until you get Exchange 2007 64bit...How to Prepare Active Directory and Domainshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspxAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi Amit,The Exhange that messed up everything was the Exchange that comes with Small Business Server 2003R2. I tried to install that Exchange on the SBS03 box when that box hosted our domain but the process died somewhere mid-stream. Some time passed and i forgot about it. Then, we had 2 new WS'03 DC's take over the domain and got rid of the SBS box (but the Exchange mess hung around in AD).I've got a note in my own personal journals that says the sbs/Exchange won't install on anything but the SBS that it came with; i don't know where i got the note from as i can't find it on line anywhere. The only other Exchange license we have is from a BackOffice 2000 suite, however, that was an open license product and i can't find the codekey for it (do u think Ms has that on record and i could get it from them?).We'd like to get the most current Exchange we have back into our domain until we can afford the '07x64 rendition of such. By the way, what is the more current version; that that came with sbs03 or our Exchange 2000?Your critique please !Thanks a bunch for the advise u did give me!Glenn (an Exchange wannabe guy)Glenn of xSyLent

Hummm... I am not sure if we can pull out SBS-Exchange 200x and install it on normal Windows environment, suggest you to use SBS newsgroup to get words from the SBS experts...SBS Newsgroup:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sbs/bb839595.aspxWell, with SBS2k3 Exchange 2003 is latest available and with SBS2k8, Exchange 2007...Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

James - a different question/issue ...I do have a BackOffice 2000 suite license. Therein, is Exchange 2000. We never installed these licenses as our company went belly-up during that era; when the steel mills went down and raped us for >$1m. Now, the problem is that i can't find the code-keys that go with the BO licenses. Do u know of any Ms phone #'s; f there is such a department, that could help me resolve this (maybe it's a file as it was an Open License Product). Thanks,GlennGlenn of xSyLent

To obtain the phone numbers for Microsoft BackOffice Server 2000 supporting request, please take a look at the web site listed below https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=1378 Also, you may post this question in Small Business Server - Backoffice Newsgroup which would be the best place for such problem
