Why do some of my users get a login to the Exchange 2010 Public Folder Server.
Hi Everyone, We just did our updates to Exchange 2010 (RU5) and now some of my users myself included using Outlook 2007 in cache mode that had left Oulook open during the updates recieved a windows login prompt for the Public Folder Server we have associated with our mailbox. I closed and restared outlook and it went away. My question is, is this something I have to educate my users on that they will have to expect from now on. This is the first time its happened v/r john

I would expect this kind of thing to happen if users are still logged in when you are patching the server. The same thing will happen if you were to reboot the server with connected users. The fact that it hasn't happened to you before I would put down as being fortunate. The link between Exchange and Outlook was broken, and that could mean the authentication needs to take place. Ideally users should be told to keep out of Exchange while patching is going on, and if someone has left Outlook open, told to restart it when they come in the next morning.
