Why are Windows 7 and particularly Office 2013 Updates so large and numerous each week/month?

My windows 7 work laptop was recently upgraded to MS Office 2013.

Every weekly/monthly cycle I have updates totaling in size from 700 mb to over 1 GB.

This is a ridiculous amount of updates, but its the size of these updates that concern me.

Today 37 updates are 990 mbs  .... On a 2mb line this takes hours.

If this does not improve, I will remove MS 2013 and go back to either and older version or an alternative.

Why are the updates so large in size ?

I cannot add the screensots for reference

Are those all Office 2013 updates? Microsoft will release update based on the security breaches reported last month.

Some updates are optional, and some are Important. You can ignore the optional ones, just install the Important ones.

However, it's always a good idea to keep your product update to date, with all available updates.

Yes they are all MS Office 2013 Professional Updates. Last Week I got another 1.5 Gb of MS Office 2013 Professional Updates.  That was it for me, I deleted the Software and am now using open source.

There was over 50 updates, with certain individual updates 150mb is size, 10 of these is over 1 Gb

I have had 3 rounds of updates that were greater in size than the original MS Office Install file.

That is ridiculous.
