Which tool for monitoring health check exchange server ?

Dear Sir,

I would like to know Which tool for monitoring health check exchange server and active directory server?

First response, without thinking, would be Exchange Best Practices Analyzer for Exchange and some others but... it has been discontinued for 2013 (why, microsoft, why?)

Although you did not specify what version of Exchange you have, I'll assume 2013 (although I've seen someone post about 5.5 in this forum so you never know).

I think the command-line Test-ServiceHealth still works.

It looks like Test-SystemHealth may have been replaced with this:

Microsoft: why do you constantly change these commands?????

If you are still using 2007 or 2010, you could still use the more user-friendly ExBPA.

As for Active Directory, you have (since server 2008) a "Best Practices Anaylyzer" - it can be found in Server Manager in the AD DS section.

You can also run DCDIAG at the command line. There are a number of parameters that provide more or less detailed output. I would look at online documentation for details. Usually the command run "as is" will provide a decent overview.

I also run these commands:

repadmin /replsum

repadmin /showrepl

Replication should be successful or with no errors.

That should get you started. I'm sure there are 3rd party tools as well (I know Quest has something but I can't remember the name - could check their web

You may use SCOM

Hi,

Firstly, we would like to recommend SCCM. It is used as a portal to see health information related to the Exchange environment. The Exchange Server 2013 SCOM Management Pack will be supported with SCOM 2007 R2 and SCOM 2012.

Since Exchange Best Practices Analyzer is not available in Exchange 2013, we can try the following choices:

 1.  Use the Test-ServerHealth and Get-HealthReport cmdlets.

 2.  View Application logs in Event Viewer.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Winnie

A 3rd party tool you can use for monitoring Exchange Server is the ARK for Exchange Server from Vyapin Software Systems - http://www.vyapin.com/products/exchange-audit/exchange-server-reporting and for Active Directory you can use ARK for Active Directory - http://www.vyapin.com/products/active-directory-audit/active-directory-reports. For tracking changes in AD you can use the Active Directory Change Tracker - http://www.vyapin.com/products/active-directory-change-tracking/active-directory-change-reporting
