Which first...2008 Server or Exchange 2007
I currently have a Server 2003 Domain in mixed mode. I am getting ready to upgrade to 2008 Servers and Exchange 2007. As both will change the Schema, should I promote a 2008 DC first and then install 2007 on a 2008 member server or should I install 2007 Exchange first? Does it make a difference? Thanks for the input!!

Hi Woody,There shouldn't be any difference since both extends the Schema for their own purpose and with their own classes. And installation of Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2008 member server is perfect since in-place upgrade of windows 2003 to 2008 is not possible when Exchange 2007 installed on it.http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/08/16/446709.aspxAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi,If you are planning to upgrade Windows Server 2003 in place then there is no issue. But if you want to maintain windows 2003 domain and install windows server 2008 as an additional domain controller then you need to run adprep /forestprep, adprep/doaminprep.Then install Exchange 2007, You can not upgrade windows server 2003 to 2008 which is running with exchange 2007 x64 as exchange 2007 supported on windows Server 2008 with SP 1.If you want to run windows 2008 as a member server in 2003 domain and install exchange 2007.then you should be able to do it directly (Where you don't want to upgrade the AD).Abhishek
