Where should users store their arhive (pst) file?
Presently our users store their arhives on their home area....a network drive. I understand that storing PST files on network drives i not advised and not supported....and having read several articles understand why. Can anyone suggest how we should implement an alternative method, bearing in mind that we have around 1,200 users and still need to back their archives up each night?

Hi, Best solution is to implement an archiving system and import the files to this system. Most archiving solution providers can give you a cost benefit analysis that explains why to do this. Yougain single instance storage No need to perform a daily full backup of the archive daily backup decreases with 1200*pst file size Leif

Hi, As you mentioned, it is not a good idea to store them on the network drives. As the pst is in the client, it is hard to backup them. Backup all users pst isa headache issue. I agree with Leif's suggestion to buy a service. Maybe you can consider use backup utility of Windows clientand schedule it to upload the pst to a server everyday. It's not a nice idea either I guess. Regards, Elvis

Its a nightmare scenario really..... if we allow users to store their archives on their local PC they are not going to be able to access them when they log into a different PC, which 90% of our users do most of the time. Our users also have quote restrictions in place on how big their home area can be....which is in line with our backup capacity. Allowing users to store their archive on a local drive will bypass the size restrictions on their home area....and result in some huge files which our backup system wouldnt be able to handle. Nightmare scenario.
