What would cause Exchange server 2003 to not deliver DNR to a user until the server is rebooted.
I have a 2003 server/2003 exchange serverwhere the outgoing mail bounce messages are not delivered until the server is rebooted. For instance if a user sends a mail to a non-existent address or a550 blocked address, the bounce message shows up in their mailbox on reboot of the server - not earlier. Bounce messages from literally weeks before can show up on reboot.Any clues?Cheers,LeeLee Drake - www.os-cubed.com

Hi, Please temporarily disable anti-virus software on the Exchange to check whether the issue still persists. I would like to explain that the message may belocked by some anti-virus software. Therefore, if the issue can be solved after disabling the software, please ensure theanti-virus softwaredoes not scan the Mailroot folder and the mailbox database file. When a message is processed by Exchange transport, the message remains in one place while passing through the various phases and memory based queues. If the message originates from the SMTP protocol (another Exchange 200x server or the Internet), then as the message comes in, it is written via the NTFS store driver to the mailroot/queue folder while going through categorization & advanced queuing. If the message originates from anywhere else -- MAPI client, OWA, or the MTA, then the message remains in the SMTP mailbox during the same process, in the SMTP mailbox accessible to transport via the Exchange store driver using IFS.For further information:Overview of Exchange Server 2003 and antivirus software http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823166/en-us How to use the Mfcmapi.exe utility to view and work with messages in the SMTP TempTables in Exchange 2000 Server and in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906557/en-us If the issue cannot be solved, please enable and check message tracking log which may provide more clues.
