What to buy to satisfy SAN certificate requirements?
The exchange 2010 install documentation says I need a SAN certificate in order to receive email at mail.domainname. If I purchase a "standard SSL", will that get me what I need? GoDaddy is offering a standard SSL, 1 year, for $12.99. When I called, the sales person did not know what a SAN was in regard to Exchange server. http://www.godaddy.com/Compare/gdcompare_ssl.aspx?isc=sslqgo001a Does an SSL apply to a domain name or the fully qualified name? The documentation says I need to include "mail.domainname", "autodiscover.domainname" and domainName in the certificate. Whould that mean I need to purchase 3 SSL certificates ? thanks,

A standard SSL certificate will only include one name (SN = Subject Name). You need a multi-name ceritificate, most CA's call this a UC or a UCC certifcate. Has support for SAN's (Subject Alternative Names). Go Daddy call theirs Multiple Domains (UCC). This will allow you to create a cert with mail., autodiscover., etc. DigiCert has some great videos on this: http://www.digicert.com/csr-creation-microsoft-exchange-2010.htm http://www.digicert.com/ssl-certificate-installation-microsoft-exchange-2010.htm You just need to buy one UCC certificate and include all the names you need in the one cert.
