What is your Maximum File Attachment Size?
That's really the whole question. I was just wondering what other admins have their file attachment size set to. It seems I keep running into more and more issues with people needing to send l large files via email. I'm wondering if I am being to conservative. My limits are between 10 and 5 MB depending on the class of user.

We go to 100 MB. We have a huge pipe and lots of disk space and I will tell you we are well outside the norm. But I will say that given todays files, 5 to 10 MB is pretty tight. I think you need to consider upping that number. I cant really tell you what it should be, but thats pretty low.

We don't restrict the individual's maximum message size, but we dorestrict the maximum possible message size for the organization.f years and it's starting to be moreand more of a problem as people continue to use e-mail a a filetransfer tool.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

The answer is really not that easy, and I think you wont simply set the limitation to 100 MB just as like Martin. It still depends on the demand of the end users and the server capability

As friends suggested and added to that..These factors changes from company to company based upon their roles and needs..In my case at the organizational level the sending size is unlimited, but there's a limitation varies from server to server and mailboxes..Some Servers default sent size we kept it to 13 MB, were in 10 MB they can send without any doughts (Attachment Size+MAil Body Size+ MIME+Signature). Some Servers default sent size we kept it to 100 MB, were in95 MB they can send without any doughts (Attachment Size + Mail Body Size+ MIME+Signature).Individual mailboxes are restricted and varies from 5MB to 10MB and even more, based on the necessity and special approvals

Thanks All. Disk Space and Loading are non factors so I conclude I have room to open up the maximum attachment size.

I do not disagree with any of the above comments, however what I would consider is user and management perception. If you tell people they have a 50MB limit and the receiving org bounces their mail because its too big for them (most people use <20MB) they might become frusturated with you anyway. I would set something between 15 and 30 megs and increase for individuals as necessary after explaining that most people cannot receive larger than this anyway.

We keep ours at 10MBWe follow the "Email is not a file transfer protocol" view.We have our users use FTP if they have a need to transfer large files. We have had issues with external email providors rejecting our email as being over their incoming limits - I cannot imagine sending 100MB files.Martin may have a huge pipe, but what about the people receiving the email?Karl

Hi, We have put the limit of 10 MB. Secondly I have seen that if you does have 20-30 mails having file size of 10MB, it effects the overall delivery efficiency of the exchange systems. I have faced such an issue when some of our users sent 8-10 MB file size at same time and due to which our mails are delayed for about 10 minutes. Thanks.

We go up to 50MB IIRC, but I'd agree with the other comments here in that for all the Exchange deployments that I do I reckon around 10-20MB is probably normal but sometimes larger. For example, my current project for a large organisation sees a maximum inbound message size of 30MB.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

In our Organization, we have set it to 10 MB but planning to increase it to 20 MB in the near future.
