What is the effect to the organisation of applying a 30 day retention policy to All Staff - Outlook 2010?

Hi all,

Before my workplace applies a 30 day retention policy, I'd like to know what effect this will have on the user's functionality of Outlook. e.g. Messages will be deleted from the inbox and not available after 30 days. All folder content will be deleted. Notes will be deleted. Calendar tasks will be deleted. Tasks will be deleted. Journal entries will be deleted. If all this happens, then what's the use of continuing to use Outlook?

If anybody else has done this, could you please relate your experiences as I need to inform staff of what effect this policy will have on their usage of Outlook.

Thanks

Retention policy enables you to control how long to keep items in users' mailboxes and define what action to take on items that have reached a certain age. This is control by Exchange online and apply to user's mailbox.

For the precedence:
Personal tags Retention policy tags (RPT) > Default policy tag (DPT)

And RPTs are applied to default folders, such as Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, and Junk Mail. RPTs dont support a retention action that moves items to the users archive mailbox. The only retention action for RPTs is to delete items.

Thanks Tony,

So, just to confirm then, the RPT applies to all items including calendar, notes, journal, contacts etc?

Thanks
