What happens when you set Exchange 203 mailbox size limits when some mailboxes are already over the limit?
I need to set mailbox size limits on my Exchange 03 server. I know there are some mailboxes that are over the limit I want to set. What happens to these mailboxes? I hope they are locked and receive a prompt to reduce their mailbox size. Any info would be helpful.

If the mailboxes exceed the limits imposed, then the mailboxes will either be prevented from sending or totally shutdown depending on the limit exceeded. This will take effect as soon as the policy has time to become inforced. I know if you relax a user's limits, it can take up to 1 hour to become effective. Not sure how long it takes when the global settings are changed. Also, the users will not be immediately prompted with a notification. That will occur when you have the mailbox limit check scheduled. But they will know soon enough when they can't send/receive emails.

Hi, Yes, users with mailbox exceding the storage limits will definitely will not be able to send mails and also will not able to receive if they have mailbox size increased the receive limits. They will get the failure when they send a mail They will Alert Mail from the Exchange server when mailbox management process runs in the schedule time. To deal with this I would have find the size of mailbox of all the users and work to apply manually to the users who has increased storage limits and others apply throught policy. This can be done throught script. As mails are the important communication tool orgninisation would not afford any down for the users.

Hi, The mailbox will not able to send/receive mail immediately after you apply the new settings. But the warning message will not send before the interval time. You could customize the warning message interval in mailbox store properties | limit tab. Thanks, Elvis
