What are the tasks that can only be done through Exchange Powershell only ?

Hi,

From what I can see and read through various news about Exchange Server 2013, there are some tasks that must/can only be done through Powershell instead of Exchange Admin Console in Exchange Server 2013 SP1 or Office 365 ?

All of my team members are familiar with Exchange Server 2007/2010 Management Console, I will need to know the list of things that must be done through Powershell console for education purpose.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I guess, there couldn't be a reference available for this requirements. What people generally does is, list out the tasks generally preforms and categorize it as EMC/EMS, EMS only.

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, there is no such list for your requirements.

In most cases, we can complete tasks using EMS or EAC.

I suggest if you want to do some actions you can make some searches In the TechNet library, if the action can't be achieved through by EAC , we'll only see the powershell commands in the articles.

The below link lists Exchange 2013 cmdlets for your reference:

Hi Server Support Specialist,

There are lots of things that can be done via PS, hence the approach you are going through is not goign to work very well.

You need to know this, anything that can be done in EAC is actually done via PowerShell in the backend. So everything eventually is done via PowerShell. EAC lets you have predefined PowerShell cmdlets and formats and queries. Same things can be done with much more flexibility using PS.

Hence it all comes down to what is your requirement is.

So if you want to list out what can't be done in EAC, its better what can be done in EAC, and remaining everything else is doable in PS.
