WORD 2013 docs downloading from a shared folder on Server 2012 instead of opening from server

I just installed a new Server 2012 into my Domain. It is replacing a simple file share Server 2003. When I open a WORD doc from new 2012 Server, it shows the file is downloading and causing sluggishness. When that same filename is opened from the old Serer 2003, it opens right from server, no download.

Puzzled here!! Any tips?

There are several things that can cause this.

1) Office File Validation (OFV) see: An Office program is slow or may appear to stop responding (hang) when you open a file from a network location

2) Slow network performance when you open a file that is located in a shared folder on a remote network computer

3) For Word: File | Options | Add-ins | Manage: Templates...Go | click Attach, then select a normal.dotm stored on a local drive.

4) Make sure you have the correct permission to the new server.
