WARNING: NOVICE question regarding DAG configurations
YES, given my level of experience we need a consultant/tech company to come in and assist but first I need to know what is possible and some of the questions to ask to make sure we get good assistance. I do not pretend to be an Exchange person or even to play one on TV... I am working in a situation where we have previously been burnt by having a single Exchange Server. Now we are investigating a DAG with 2010 SP1 Exchange server and would like to fully automate the failover process. In picking this up midcycle of deployment (oh joy!) where can we look for more detai or what changes should we make with the following equipment: NY: Exhange 2010 SP1 server NC: Exchange 2010 SP1 server, Exchange SP1 server, two CAS boxes. I have been told that if we lose network connections to NY then we are at risk of data corruption but that does not sound right. I have been looking at a number of articles regarding "SPLIT BRAIN SYNDROME" and everything I have read appears to state it is possible to automate in a manner failover and then sync are possible with no or limited admin intervention. If we need a different configuration, that is still the goal. The company runs 24 hours a day and depends on email. Thank you in advance for any suggestions and guidance on this issue!

Hi, Do you want to create DAG between site NY and NC? Generally Speaking, if you lose network connections to NY from NC, the database copy will suspend automatically until the network connection is recovered. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks Gen Lin-MSFT

Yes, we would like to extend the DAG to the two geographic sites. The concern that was raised is what happens when the connection between the two sites is cut but both are able to continue independently. A consultant told us that we could have problems with data corruption. That did not sound right...

Gulab, Thank you, I was looking at this point: In the event of a failure affecting the Replication network, if the MAPI network is unaffected by the failure, log shipping and seeding operations will revert to use the MAPI network. When the failed Replication network is restored, log shipping and seeding operations will revert back to the Replication network. So restoration of the connection and replication is an automatic process? Tannant
