Visio 2013 64-bit Trial

Hello,

I have been working on this on and off again for the past few days. Still have not been able to crack the nut.

I downloaded the Visio 2013 64-bit trail (VisioProfessional_x64_en-us.img - it's 444MB) from Technet. At first I had issues getting a product key but found some instructions here on how to reset my browser settings and that seemed to work. So I'm square on the file and the key.

I tried double clicking the file to kick of the installation and I get an error message (Sorry, couldn't mount the file). I found some more helpful suggestions online and have tried

 - renaming to .iso -> Double click. That didn't work

 - renaming to .exe -> Double click. That didn't work

Do I have to make a disc for this to work? I have two issues if this is the case...

1) I'm on a Surface Pro, so no burner.

2) in one of the two renaming tests above it told me that the file was corrupt. I don't want to waste a disc.

Anyone else having this issue or have any further suggestions?

Thanks!

Surface Pro? Have you tried right click on the image file? And did you see the Mount button? Click it, then you can open it from your DVD drive.

Apart from which, we can also open the image file with some unzip utility, such as the freeware 7-Zip.

Hi Max,

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I did the right click -> Mount I got this error message. "Couldn't Mount File - Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file." Weird.

I did extract with WinRAR (didn't know that was an option). Ran the setup and it failed. Apparently I have 32-bit office installed.

I thought I had 64-bit.

Meh. I can fix that.

Thanks again for your help!

We can not cross install 32-bit editions Office and 64-bit editions Office on the same system.

Here are some available options:

  1. Download the 32-bit edtions Visio 2013 instead;
  2. Remove the 32-bit editions Office 2010, and reinstall the 64-bit editions;
  3. Create a 64-bit virtual machine (Hyper-V), then install the 64-bit edtions Visio 2013 in the virtual machine;

Aye. I just pulled the 32 bit version and followed your extraction method above. it's installed and running now. Thanks again for your help.

I didn't know there was a 64-bit version of Visio 2013---you certainly  can not buy a 64-bit version.
