Virtual Server 2005 and Exchange 2007 - MS Contradictions
Finding myself fairly confused. In the release notes of Virtual Server 2005 R2 I find the following two pieces of information:"Q. Which additional operating systems can serve as guests for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 and KB948515.msp?A. ... Windows Server 2008 Small Business Server"And then a few questions down:"Q. Does Virtual Server 2005 support 64-bit processors?A. ...Note that Virtual Server 2005 R2 requires that guest operating systems be 32-bit."Now from the release notes for Exchange 2007:"Operating system on a computer that has a 32-bit processor for testing and training environments only (This is not supported in production environments.)"Here's where my confusion comes in. According to the release notes VS2005 has support for SBS 2008, which due to the requirements of Exchange 2007 MUST be a 64bit operating system...but then in the next breath MS says that VS2005 does not support a 64bit guest OS. What am I missing here?To give this question purpose, here is what we have and want to achieve. We are currently running Server 2003 Standard 32bit. We would like to run Server 2008/Exchange 2007 as a guest OS under our current Server 03 platform. Our hardware is indeed 64bit, so is this possible?

There's a little piece of information availableon page 14 ofthe Windows Small Business Server 2008 Release Candidate Reviewer's Guide providing some info: Windows Small Business Server 2008 Standard Edition is only available as a 64-bit operating system; your server hardware must have a 64-bit processor to install and use Windows Small Business Server 2008 server. Windows Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition adds a fourth server running either 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the operating system. While this seems incorrectly copied from the Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Reviewer's Guide there is some truth in it. Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition includes a license for SQL Server 2008 and a license for a second server, that can apparently be installed as 32bit. Thanks for the reply, though it still doesn't really make sense of the issue. If SBS 2008 has to be 64 bit and it runs on Virtual Server 2005 then Virtual Server 2005 must have the capability for 64 bit OSes, unless the exchange integration with SBS 2008 is 32bit which still doesn't make sense...
