Various objects missing from GAL (Exch2k7)
Hello everyone, Let me start bystating that I have searched these forums and the internet in general for a solution to this problem, but I have come up empty so far. All of the somewhat similar discussion topics end up not being the problem I am having. With that out of the way, here are the specifics: I am having a problem with lots of different items missing from the global address list. I've got distribution lists that don't show up, users, shared resources of all types (rooms, calendars, mailboxes). Some of these items are not recently entered. I have one distribution group that went missing that had been in the system for over a month. The first user to notice it missing had just been converted to Windows XP however (read below about environment & migration we are going through). Then this user contacted me about 5 days later to tell me that it was suddenly back in the GAL again. Also, the items that are missing cannot be found by doing the advanced find. We are in the final stages of a migration off of Novell GroupWise. We have a mixed domain. The DCs are Windows 2003 servers. The Exchange 2k7 servers are running on Windows 2008 server. All clients have been recently re-imaged and arenow Windows XP with Office 2007. Now someone is sure to bring up thetopic of the OAB.... We have cached mode disabled (by policy) so that the Outlook 2007 clients cannot use it. Can a problem with the OAB actually cause you a problem if you're not using cached mode? I wouldn't think so, but it is interesting that all of the items reported missing by users do show up when using OWA. Any ideas? Waiting 5-7 days for things to show up isn't acceptable, and I know it shouldn't be that slow.

Hi, Please try to use ADSIedit.exe tool to check whether value for ShowInAddressBook attribute is blank. 1. Install Windows Support Tools http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/7fd1f478-e072-479c-abfd-9ab4a64f939f1033.mspx?mfr=true 2. Run adsiedit.exe from a command prompt. 3. Use ADSIEdit.msc and locate the objects in the Domain Naming Context of the Active Directory. 4. Find the object which cannot be view in GAL and right click to Properties. 5. Please find ShowInAddressBook and then click on it. 6. Check whether the value is blank. Besides, I would like to know whether there are several DCs in your environment, please ensure that the DC is in health state. Please run DCdiag /v from a command prompt to check it. Dcdiag Overview http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/f7396ad6-0baa-4e66-8d18-17f83c5e4e6c1033.mspx?mfr=true Also please ensure that all the DCs are in the same state, please try to use Replication Diagnostics Tool to check it. Example 10: Showing the replication status of a forest using replsummary and wildcard characters. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773062.aspx Using Repadmin.exe to troubleshoot Active Directory replication http://support.microsoft.com/kb/229896 Hope it helps.
