VISO 2007 Professional on WIN7 Ultimate reinstalls on Every Startup
Hello,

I just rebuilt my PC, am running WIN7 Ultimate, Office 2007 and Viso 2007.  Every time I start Viso, it starts reinstalling itself.  Everything I have tried to fix this issue has failed to work.  Note that the same issue existed on my old hardware (same software).  Here are some of the things I tried,

KB2685120

-        I ran repair

-        I  confirmed that key matched what is required

[other link not allowed until account verified]

-        Removed KB2767916

-        Did not help

-        Reinstalled the update

Events, do not list a problem with Viso:

ID: 10, Application Name: Microsoft Office Visio, Application Version: 12.0.6676.5000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6612.1000. This session lasted 5 seconds with 0 seconds of active time.  This session ended normally.

Please help me get Viso 2007 Professional starting normally.  Thanks.

Hi,

According to your description, I have a question.

  • Which error message did you get? Ask for re-install or just configing Visio when starting?  Please upload the whole error message or screenshot via OneDrive if possible.

Then, you said you tried the KB 2685120, this KB is troubleshoot the error message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visio", if you got this error message, please try the method:

1.In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then select Run.
2.Type the following command, and then press Enter:
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Visio\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
3.(Optional) Instead of typing the command line, you can  copy it to your clipboard, right-click an empty section of the Run box, select Paste, and then press Enter.

Next, I also recommend we use Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool to scan the PC, it'll help us check the Office known issue.

Following this , I noticed that this issue also occur with the old hardware, this issue also might be caused the installation copy, we could change/re-download a copy to test.

Hi George,

Thanks for your input.  I do not get an error message.  Every time I start Viso 2007 Professional,

The Windows Installer starts, and starts a reinstall process.  I can stop this or let it proceed.  Either way the VISO starts and becomes operational.

I ran your script using the command prompt.  It completed successfully.  Then I rebooted and clicked on Viso.  The install process started again.

I used RegEdit to check HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Visio, and see that Office lists 12.0, which includes Viso.  However, just below this, 8.0 is listed and contains Outlook.  This is a little surprising to me.  On my system I also have Office Ultimate 2007 installed.

I ran Office Configuration Analyzer (OCA), and selected VISO 2007.  It reported,

You do not have the most recent files for MSO 2007.

You currently have MSO.dll version 12.0.6683.5000.

I have been running Microsoft updater regularly.  I also confirmed that it does not see an update that needs to be installed.  Why is my software out of date?

I got a 2007 update from a link provided by OCA.  mso2007-kb2837609-fullfile-x86-glb.  I rebooted after installing the update and get the installation process starting again.  OCA also indicated hyperlinks are not working in Outlook.  However, I confirmed they are working but my default browser is not IE.  The only other issue reported is, The WebClient service is not running (I do not use Share Point).

I reran OCA.  The warning about the most recent files is no longer present.  Looking under Other Reports,

21:12:30.893: Error (Rule name 'fOfficeProductVersion15x64' referenced by rule 'OfficeUpdates_fOffice2013SP1Slipstream' in input file is not defined) in format of rules in configuration file.

I am not sure what this means.  I ran OCA on Outlook, while Outlook was open.  No new errors are reported.

Next I tested Excel.  You currently have version 12.0.6683.5002

I installed update, excel2007-kb2837608-fullfile-x86-glb

This did not change Visos behavior.

I ran OFC on Word.  No new errors were listed. I ran OFC on Power Point. No new errors were listed.

When I first installed these products on PC1 they worked.  I believe an update caused the Visio reinstall problem.  I found a fix on the web that had me unregister and re-register the Windows installer.  This worked for some time then broke again.  I was not able to get things working after things broke a second time.

For PC2, I believe I download the lasted Office 2007 Ultimate SP1 from the digital river site but had to use my DVD for Viso 2007 because I could not get this product to download from the site.  Today I logged into my account and entered my VISO key for a product that has a DVD.  The site got an error and asked me to try again later.

I hope something in this response provide you with the information you need to help me close this issue.  Thanks.
