Using external provider for subdomain in Exchange 2007
Some background, we are a rather small school currenly using Exchange 2007 for our faculty. We are looking at using either live@edu or google apps for student email, and this is where the fun begins. What I am trying to achieve is: studentuser@student.ourdomain.com email will arrive at live@edu or google. On our Exchange server I would like to create distribution lists for the different classes, and the live@edu team suggests creating contacts for the students. All our students have AD users at the moment, so I thought I'd just batch create them as contacts in their own OU, create lists based on that, but the batch creation fails due to some strange reason (used the syntas as specified here: http://exchangeorg.net/archive/2007/04/12/bulk-create-mail-contacts-based-on-a-csv-file.aspx). In addition this really makes me create the user's twice, they are already in the AD as users and then having a seperate contact seems sort of meh. So i toyed with the idea of having a different address policy for students in their OU, so that their default email address is studentuser@student.ourdomain.com, and I am able to reuse the AD user for this, just mail enable their AD user. However, I have done my research and I don't quite seem to find out if this is possible at all. So - Anyone with any tips on how to do this, and even better, any other companies/school's out there who are trying the same thing, namely continue using Exchange for staff/faculty, but using a third party provider for students/someone else? Perhaps I am really trying to achieve the impossible here though
