Using a VIP

Hi all,

I have a quick question about exchange, I know from experience that if you have a Ex10 environment with multiple front servers, i.e. CAS servers that you will need to put a VIP in front of them. However I have a customer with several Ex03 servers (no front and back end setup) would a VIP be required? If not how does the user connect to the relevant sever to open their mailbox etc.

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, Exchange 2013 is different from previous version of Exchange servers on structure.

When a user query to CAS 2013, the most fit CAS 2013 would proxy this request to the MBX server which the user mailbox located in.

For example, CAS01+ MBX01, CAS02+MBX02, userA's mailbox located in MBX01.

When userA receive an e-mail, the request may knock CAS02, and CAS02 detects the userA's mailbox in MBX01, then CAS02 proxy this request and userA receive this email in MBX01. Doesn't need to knock CAS01.

Thanks
