I just installed SP1 and RSAT on my Vista x64 box successfully. Thiswill finallyallow me to manage most of my Windows 2003 & eventually my 2008 servers without the need to use remote desktop (which is a hugeplus for those of us that managemultiple large networks withmany servers). My question is simple, but I'm sure the answer won't be so simple. I, along with so many administrators out there, have gotten very attached to the old "adminpak.msi" way of management which includes the Exchange extensions into Active Directory Users and Computers. Any word on how to re-obtain this feature using the new RSAT tools? I assume I can't just install the Exchange Management Console like before. If I create a new user using the RSAT ADUC snap-in, I don't see a way to create the corresponding Exchange mailbox (Exchange 2003 currently) or manage the properties of that mailbox easily like I did previously using ADUC+EMC. These tools were so powerful and so easily accessable previously. It will be a real shame if we don't get comparable solutions to these issues. Anyone hear of a solution yet using RSAT?

I look forward to a knowledgable response to this post. I also am doing all I can to decommission my XP PC, and become soley dependant on my Vista Laptop. The disconnect between RSAT and Exchange Attributes seems to be reminissant of and NT Domainwith Exchange 5.5. I thought the concept of Active Directory was intentional to bring the user account attributes to the same place, and therefore manageable from the same place. Another option would be to create an entire web-console to do all of this, and remove the platform dependancy all together. So if the egineers/developers get so inspired, I embrace this direction as well.

Exchange Management Console Referring to Microsoft Knowledgebase article 931903, which states you cannot install the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange System Manager on a Windows Vista-based computer, butsince Exchange Server 2007 ServicePack 1 you can install the Exchange Management Console, belonging to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 onto workstations running Windows Vista with ServicePack 1. Check here for more information. Using the Exchange Management Console you can remotely manage servers running Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007. Of course you will be missing a bunch of functionality sincesome of the features of Exchange Server 2003 were deprecated in Exchange Server 2007. Exchange tabs in Active Directory Users and Computers Regarding your question on getting the Exchange Tabs in Active Directory Users and Computers (dsa.msc) you should know Microsoftsplit Exchange and Active Directory management (again). Exchange Management is done in the Exchange Server 2007 Management Console.Howeverstargatephilposted a workaround in the TechNet Windows Vista Pro forum on a workaround at least for the exchange management tools within Vista with ServicePack 1. Note: This method is unsupported. Copy the followingfiles into your Windows/System32 directory on your Vista pc: address.dll escprint.dll exchmem.dll glblname.dll maildsmx.dll netui0.dll netui1.dll netui2.dll pttrace.dll Perform the following command: regsvr32 \windows\system32\maildsmx.dll After this, open up your RSAT tools and you will see the exchange tabs and exchange tasks for each user.

I ran that before I installed SP1, then RSAT.... I have x64 Vista and had to put those files in the SysWOW64 directory, then run the regsvr32 command. It was working great. But then I heard about RSAT and really wanted the other tools to work correctly (some did, some didn't before with adminpak). After upgrading to SP1, loading RSAT, I lost my exchange attributes and re-registering doesn't bring them back! ADUC is fairly useless to me without the ability to look at Exchange attributes on a user/group. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all for it!

I assume by the lack of response to this post that MS has no answer? So the only way to mail enable a user account is to log into my Exchange 2003 server and run the old ADUC - WOW, what a waste of this new 64 bit VISTA laptop!

What I ended up doing was the following: Uninstalled AdminPack SP1 Installed RSAT ----> ONLY CHECKED THE GROUP POLICY MANAGEMENT TOOL (none of the others!) Installed AdminPack SP2 Ran the registering of exchange files After that, my exchange extensions were present...however if you install any other of the native RSAT items, you lose them....freakin' stupid. Maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal if you're in an EX07 environment. *Edit* I also have oddball errors when exiting my custom MMC...i have to use the 32bit mmc, then add in all my snapins, etc. But it does work... Hope that helps!
