Using Exchange 2007 on my Web Hosting Server:
My company has decided to migrate from a pure Linux environment to a Windows environment. We are deploying a Microsoft Terminal Server, Microsoft Exchange for email, and hosting our website locally. To reduce the cost of an additional server, I have been asked to research deploying our Exchange on the same server that we host our website. I can see multiple security issues with this, with the different security access needed for Exchange and via our website, but was wondering if this had been done previously, and how well it works. Our website is very minimal, with minimal traffic. (22-24 pages). We have 26 CAL users in MS Exchange, so the size is small in comparrison to our server size (Raid5, 4x 146GB in storage).Would this type of deployment be feasible?Thank you in advance for your help.Mitchell Hensley

Mitchell, Unless your server is 64 bit, you will not be able to install exchange 2007 on that server. I would recommend purchasing a dedicated server for this purpose, doesnt have to be a huge powerhouse server for 26 users. The other option is Exchange 2003 which can be done of course, but the issues would arise on which features you wanted to use, like OWA< active Sync, things along those lines. I can assist you a liitle down the path, but realize that exchange is a lot more than just a web service and make sure that the powers that be understand that. If the hardware you have is 64 bit, you can install the CAS role on that web services, realizing again that certian functions in Exchange 2007 require port 80 access, so those would require changing. Hope that helps a little. please reply with addiitonal questions if needed. Good Luck with your deployment, Mark
