Users can see public folders in outlook that they do not have access to

Hi all

We are running Exchange 2013 and Outlook 2010. Some users can see some public folders in their Outlook that they do not have access too.

The users only see an empty folder when they try to open it.

I can't remove those folders from the public folder list. I do not think the users should have something visible they do not use.

Do you know where I can do that ?

Thanks in advance

What permissions you have on those public folders? If Default or User have folder visible or upper permission then they would be able to see folders, lock it down to none and they won't...

I have user and anonymous with contributer rights. If those two users do not have that access right, you can't send mails to them.

CreateItem should be sufficient instead of Contributor.

To ensure that users on the Internet can send e-mail messages to a mail-enabled public folder, the public folder needs to have at least the CreateItems access right granted to the Anonymous account. If you want to learn how to do this, check out Allow anonymous users to send email to a mail-enabled public folder. -----  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997560(v=exchg.150).aspx

Hi,

'Contributor' role contains CreateItems and FolderVisible permissions. So anonymous user can see this public folder.

And please post the results of this command to us if you need more help.

Get-PublicFolderClientPermission "\TopLevelPublicFolder\PublicFolder"

To set the proper permissions, please refer to this document

Best Regards.
