User gets email sent to group even though user is not member of group
I'm having a very odd issue. When someone sends an email to the group "test", user ABC gets the email. User ABC is not a member of test and shouldn't be receiving the email at all. I've had to implement a rule where if user ABC gets an email intended for that group it automatically deletes it, but obviously this is not the method I want to use for long term. Any ideas on how to approach why this is happening? Also, I checked all the rules for the users in that group and no one is forwarding the email to the user.

Hi, What's your Exchange version. Do you have any transport agent or transport rule enabled? Have you enabled journaling? I suggest you check the mail via message tracking center to see if you can find some clues. Thanks, Elvis

Which version of Exchange...Well if its Exchange 2007, check any transport rules created for that user, since if a user is not a member of DL the DL mail will not go to his mailbox. Also check Elvis suggestion and post us on the update.

Have you checked the Mail forwarding option in AD of the members of DL? may be some who is on OOF forwarding all emails to some other user. Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Do you know of an article that explains that? I'm not quite savy enough with Exchange. And it's Exchange 2003.

VINOD, it seems your link was the issue. Under delivery options it was being forwarded to the user, which explains why there was no rule for it. Going to test it in a bit and verify that was the issue. Thanks!

Your answer and VINOD's helped. I used the message tracking to see they were all being sent from this one particular user, then I used his to check the forwarding option in Delivery Options. Thanks for your help!
