User doesn't appear in Exchange 2010 Outlook Address Book
Here's the fun part - they show up just fine in the Global Address List, which can be accessed by mobile devices and OWA. But for some reason, they're not showing up in Outlook Address Book. We're running Outlook 2010 here. Seems like a few other people asked similar questions but didn't get answers ...----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

This is a common problem people encounter. The "Address List" is a query made against AD which is why it always works. The [offline] Address Book has to be complied at some regular interval and then distributed to the user's Outlook clients. The process works like this: Offline address book is rebuilt once a day by default. If you're using public folders, its copied into there, and/orThe CAS file distribution service copies the oab to it's file share for distribution over httpseach Outlook client queries the CAS/PF at defined intervals and updates its copy of the OAB. Complaints frequently come in 2 varities: "HEY my OAB doesn't update until the next day!" - this is by design and can be changed by adjusting the oab rebuild/poling interval stated above<your query> Your problem often happens when Autodiscover isn't setup right or some other reason prevents outlook from finding or connecting to the offline address book. I'd first use the test utility in outlook to see if the URLS for OAB are valid, then if that doesn't work, check the event logs on the servers to make sure the processes aren't broken somewhere in the list I mentioned. ctrl + right-click the outlook icon by the clock: Mike Crowley | MVP My Blog -- Planet Technologies

Could this have something to do, then, with the fact that internal and external server settings are different? I may have to straighten those out. I'll let you know what happens Monday. ----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

Hello, Is there any update on this thread? You can restart the System Attendant and File Distribution Services to force the OAB updated. Ok guys I think I figured out the solution. Turns out the -rpcclientaccessserver property wasn't set to the same server as the server I entered in EMC to handle all the client access roles. Once I set the mbx db to the appropriate server, and reconnected an Outlook client to that server, I got the updated address list. Now here's a bonus question - is there an elegant way to reconnect Outlook to a new server without completely deleting and reconfiguring the account? Outlook has that extra special step where it wants you to point the account info to a separate file while you delete and recreate an account, which makes it extra cumbersome. Or will accounts eventually reconfigure automatically, to point to the new CAS server?----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios
