User Photos in GAL for Exchange 2003
Hi Is it possible to add photos to the GAL in Exhange 2003 but for clients running Outlook 2010? Is there an offical procedure by Microsoft that outline the steps on how to do this? and what is the impact to performance and storage?

Yes the rendering is a client and AD function not Exchange. However Exchange 2010 has ability to import the picture using the shell to populate the AD thumbnail attribute rather than resorting to manually adding or scripting it. The thumbnail attribute can be a max of 100kb but recommended to be around 10kb. The attribute does get replicated, keep picture size low, impact is minimal. One option, the picture should be JPEG file. Here is some information about how to upload picture in Exchange 2003 http://blogs.technet.com/b/ilvancri/archive/2009/11/17/upload-picture-in-outlook-2010-using-the-exchange-management-shell-exchange-2010.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292029 Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Jerome, The article is referring to Exchange 2010. Our company is planning on rolling out Outlook 2010 but we will still be using Exchange 2003. How can we make this work with Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2003? Thanks

Yes if you went futher into the link it shows article verifying that it works with 2003. Yes you can't use the shell to upload the photo so you'll have to do it manually, using a VB script or other third party tools such as Hyena. Is it possible to add the pictures to an Ex2007 Sp1/Outlook 2007 system? http://blogs.technet.com/b/ilvancri/archive/2010/01/08/follow-up-import-recipientdataproperty.aspxJames Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

I wrote a user friendly app (that Microsoft actually recommend in one of their KB articles) for uploading, viewing and exporting images in user's thumbnailPhoto attribute. You can download it for free from here: http://www.cjwdev.co.uk/Software/ADPhotoEdit/Info.html (the free version is free for personal or commercial use and will do everything that most people want to do, the paid for version just includes bulk import and bulk export features) Hope that helps :) ChrisMy website: www.cjwdev.co.uk My blog: cjwdev.wordpress.com

You don't need to care what version of Exchange server , It is an attribute of AD object. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
