I have MS Office 2010 installed on my computer running Windows 7 and McAfee Total Protection.  When I open Word or any other program except Excel, the program opens immediately.  When I try to open Excel, the User Account Control window pops up and asks me if I want to allow changes to the Excel program on my hard drive. Just finished a McAfee on-line session.  The same thing hapens even if McAfee is disabled.

Sorry I am not sure because I never use McFee. I think your problem is related to this program or you may not an administrative user. So can you try following:

1-Check if you are administrator or not? If not please check with your administrator

2-Try to disable McFee then try to open Ms Excel again.

3-Window 7 may ask you in case any program want to update so please make sure your Ms Office is fully set.

4-Make sure your Ms Excel doesn't contain harmful macro...
