Hi All I have one Exchange SP2 on Win 2003 Enterprise R2, there is one storage group contains one mailbox store and Public Folder store. The Exchange Server had some problems and the storage group is corrupted now and I need to recover mailboxes and public folders from recent ntbackup file. The mailbox store and public folder store as appeared and dismounted, but can't be mounted. How can I restore the storage group with minimal effect on the users? And should I use another Exchange Server during the Restore process. Thanks very much

Hello, You can use recovery storage group to restore from the backup mean while you can start the production with the blank store, so at least users can able to send and receive email while you're in process with the restore process. Once you're done with the restore on RSG then you can merge the RSG mailboxes to the Production maiboxes. Hi you may want to check out Lucid8's DigiScope (DS) http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp that has an intuitive GUI and has the ability to open Raw Offline EDB files so in short you could use DS to open an Offline copy of your current 2003 EDB, then connect to the NEW production exchange server and then Drag-n-Drop data from the old EDB to the New Production server or use the Recovery Wizard and then let DigiScope do the work for you, i.e. no need to Export/Import using PSTs although DS can do that as well. Couple of other things that might be of interest Once an offline EDB is opened DS allows you to Browse, View, Search, Export to PST, MSG & XML formats to as I said above you can go directly from the Offline EDB to the original or ANY other Online Production Exchange Server. DS supports Exchange 2010, 2007, 2003, 2000 and 5.5 so whatever version you have DS has it covered and can help you move data between different versions of Exchange if desired. DS can also search an Offline or Online store based on a myriad of possibilities, i.e. To, From, Content Words/Phrases, Attachments etc etc Can Undelete "Hard Deleted Items" within a Production Store, or execute Deletes and Purges for data that meets the set criteria, i.e. contains words/phrases, from, to, or attachment types etc. There are also Project Based licenses just for situations like this.
