Upgrading from Exchange 2007 Sp1 to Sp3
Hi guys, I was tempted to upgrade my environment from Sp1 directly to Sp3, but I've read the Exchange blog posts and there appear to be lingering problems with opening attachments from OWA for instance, so I'll hold off and upgrade to SP2 instead. However, I previously ran prepareSchema in preperation for the Sp2 install, and I am struggling to tell if there is a similar requirement for SP3? I may be missing the obvious statement of "there is a need", so forgive me if I have, but I could not see that. Any idea? Tom

Yes, SP3 install will also modify schema classes and attributes mentioned at Active Directory Schema Changes (SP3) Milind Naphade | MCTS:M (Exchange 2007 and 2010) | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

I have my entire customer base on Exchange 2007 SP3, which includes some very large sites, and haven't seen any reports of issues with attachments or anything else. Where did you see those reports? If you run the setup.exe from the GUI, then the service pack will do everything for you. There is a schema update which introduces Exchange 2010 compatibility. Hi Sembee, It is actually the "remote Document Access" feature which people are having problems with. Check out the postings here: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2010/06/21/455145.aspx I have a very large messaging environment, so am unsure as to whether to take the risk and apply SP3 having only been released so recently. If not, I'm going to have to apply sp2 and "hopefully" be able to slipstream it up to rollup4. Tom

I don't think that feature is deployed with any of my clients. Consideration of that feature stops when it is realised that you cannot populate the paths with known servers/shares or use drive letters. Users don't know that they data is on \\server\share\directory, they know it is on the S: drive. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Yeah, we don't actually utilise that feature either, but I want to check whether there is any SharePoint reliance on the underlying mechanism for RDAC before I see what to do. Checking with various vendors like Sophos and they haven't officially acknowledged support on SP3, but that is just me being cautious ;-) So as far as you know, you haven't seen\heard of any other problems? (Search problems perhaps?)
