Upgrading a Windows 2000 domain and Exchange 2000
Hi, One of my clients has a Windows 2000 domain with 53 users and four W2K Standard SP4 servers. We're stable and comfortable, but we need to start upgrading to more current products for a variety of reasons. First, our layout: Server 1: Domain controller and Exchange 2000 SP3/pSP3 rollup Server 2: Web/FTP server (not in the domain) Server 3: Application server (part of the domain) Server 4: Terminal server (part of the domain) Our application server will require W2003, and our Blackberry users are screaming at us to upgrade to at least Exchange 2003 (and Enterprise, since we're currently limited to 16GB by E2K Standard). Is it true that newer versions of Exchange should be on a server that's not the domain controller? If so, can I move Exchange to the Web/FTP server? Our FTP clients are only granted access to our FTP site with our permission using separate virtual FTP accounts. Also, can I upgrade this setup directly to Exchange 2007 (from 2000) and Windows 2008 (from 2000)? Thanks for any help and any suggestions!

HI, Yes Microsoft doesnt recommend installing exchange server on the Domain controller and installing Exchange server with other server roles such as FTP, WEb servers due to performance issues. But you can install Exchange onmember server with FTP and Web and please aware to place web and FTP without conflict with Exchange OWA.You'll able to transition to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 2000 directlyUpgrading to Exchange 2007http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124008.aspxRegardsChinthaka
