Upgrading Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 with a Blackberry Enterprise Server
This summer I will be upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. We have a small number of Blackberry users on a BES express (v5.0 SP3) and I want to be sure it will continue to work after the email server is upgraded. Is this something where I can simply change a few settings and be up and running or would I need to do a new install? If its simply changing some settings is there perhaps a reliable guide I could follow? I would very much appreciate your feedback, thanks!Dan

You don't need to do anything. Blackberry worker threads maps users back to a user mailboxes when a mailbox gets moved to a different store or server scanning the GAL for changes in the Server DN. BES will pick up the changes. I've never used BES Express but I don't see how it would be different from regular BES.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Fantastic, exactly what I was hoping would be the case. Thanks James!Dan

Not strictly true. At some point you are going to have to change the MAPI interface to the new version. So that will mean stopping and disabling the BES services, removing ESM from the machine and rebooting (very important). While it reboots, move the BESADMIN account to the Exchange 2010 server. Then install the MAPI CDO component and reconfigure the MAPI profile in the BES control panel applet. Then you can change the services back to automatic and reboot again. I would also suggest that you run this command on Exchange 2010 while BESADMIN is on Exchange 2003: Get-ThrottlingPolicy | Set-ThrottlingPolicy -RCAMaxConcurrency $null Then set it back to the default thus: Get-ThrottlingPolicy | Set-ThrottlingPolicy -RCAMaxConcurrency 20 While you already have BES in place, some additional permissions are required - refer to the latest installation guide from RIM which contains the commands that are required for Exchange 2010. It will work in the current guise, but you do need to set up Exchange 2010 correctly for native support. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

That is true, I over simplified to mailbox moves with servers already running BES and not new servers not running bes yet, thanks.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
